The Rio Terraba and Sierpe come together on their route to the Pacific to form the largest mangrove swamp in Costa Rica. Most of the river can be paddled by all experience levels. Several miles from the rivermouth lies the sleppy little town of Sierpe. Sierpe is the pick up and drop off place for people traveling to Bahia Drake or Corcovado. Further up river is miles of nearly uninhabitted mangrove swamp. Monkeys and sloths in the trees, Crocodiles and Caiman on the shores and an unbelievable number of birds everywhere. Down river from Sierpe is an amazing labrynth of mangrove Islands to lose ourselves amongst.
"Countless layers of beautiful song birds erupt with the break of dawn. Laying in bed, I feel as though I have been transported back in time when animals ruled the earth—."
